Glasgow Schools Cross Country Championships

A large contingent of 25 pupils from the secondary school descended on Pollok Park for the annual Glasgow Schools Cross Country Championships.

The course is traditionally flat, fast but muddy and this year was no exception!

The school had it's best ever performance at this years championships with 6 top 20 finishes and a remarkable 17 Top 50 places across 8 races. There was a real team spirit within the group with lots of encouragement was given to all those running. The effort put in by each individual for the result of the team was awesome.

In the S1 Girls race Abigail was first home in 60th position with Johanna 63rd. Erin Houston ran the whole race practically with one shoe on and still managed to place 67th with a fantastic sprint finish over stones too. Shannon had an injury but got round the course for the team regardless to finish in 82nd.

The S1 boys packed well to record the schools best ever team finish of 4th place! What a fantastic result for the boys. Lewis Conley was 23rd, Calum Stewart 26th, Findlay Dickson 28th, James Diamond 42nd and Alexander Buchan 45th! Great effort from all the boys to get in the top 50!

The S2 Girls went off next with Anna Murray finishing in the top half of the field in 50th. Morag McKirdy showed great determination to get round for the team cause in 67th with Niamh Robertson in 81st and Louise Templeton in 82nd position. The girls finished 9th team out of 19 so a big well done to them.

The S2 Boys race was very exciting! Daniel Moran ran a very sensible mature race. After the first lap he was sitting 11th and came through over the last 600m to take 4th place and the highest ever position by a Gaelic School pupil. A fantastic effort from Daniel who dramatically improved on his 11th position last year. He was backed up strongly by: Calum Brown 21st, Benjamin  Campbell 40th and Aidan Dow 61st. The boys finished 6th Team.

We only had two S3 girls in this years race but what a fantastic performance from both of them. Amy Craig finished a brilliant 9th. Rowan Moore had a phenomenal run to finish 29th! Last year she was 90th, what an improvement. Rowan has consistently been attending athletics on a Wednesday and this has shown in her performances over the country.

In the S3 Boys race the school cross country champion Conall Whyte was first home in his highest ever placing of 14th! Luc Galanti who only got asked to run at 9.00am on the morning of the race as a replacement for Jacob finished a brilliant 19th! Lewis Dickson running his first ever Glasgow schools cross county champs did very well to finish 30th. Zach Ronan who had been ill recently did his best to get round and finish in 46th! The team finished in 6th position which is the best this year group has done by a long way.

Charlotte Moock who placed 53rd last year finished 13th this year! She was in the S4 race and moved steadily through the field picking places off one by one. Charlotte should be very pleased with her performance and her improvement in the year.

Fraser Watt was our sole representative in the S4 Boys race. The race was over 4.5km, 3 laps of the muddy course. Fraser did 3 consistent laps and came through to finish 13th position. This was 10 places higher than he finished last year.

Well done to all runners! Mr MacCorquodale and Mr MacKay are very pleased with your effort, attitude and behaviour! This was the best the school has ever done! On to next year now, looking forward to it already!

More photos to come tomorrow!
