Scottish Schools Athletics Championships

Well this year proved to be our most successful year at the Scottish Schools Athletics Championships. On Day 1 - the relay championships we had two teams taking part, a girls 4 x 400m and a boys 4 x 400m. The girls qualified for the final and finished 5th after a great team performance, they are all young enough to take part in this event for the next 2-3 years which is promising. So well done Annaabel MacDonald, Chloe Forrest, Erin Moran and Eilidh McDougall.

The boys race went to a straight final. The team of Lewis Grimmer, Aidan Tittmar, Calum Stewart and Jacob Connelly went 3 full seconds faster than they did the year before. The boys put an almighty effort in to finish in 4th place. A big thank you to Lewis and Jacob who were taking part in their final school race and only a couple of hours before prom. Thanks for all your hard work for the school over the past 6 years, we appreciate it.

In the track and field championships which is a two day event we had a large number of athletes taking part, our biggest entry yet. Here's the team:

Annabel MacDonald – 300m
Eilidh McDougall – 100m

Day 2 – Saturday 9th June
Shona Carey – 1500m
Abbey Hart – 100m
Sarah Bonad – 100m
MacKenzie Morrison – 100m
Cameron Weir - Javelin

We had an unprecedented success over the two day event. Eilidh McDougall qualified for the semi finals of the 100m in the B girls competition. Iver Campbell, James, Robaidh McKenzie, Shona and Millie all recorded Personal bests all on day 1. McKenzie qualified for the final of the Discus and finished 5th! Cameron qualified for the final of the Javelin also a top 6 performance as too did Shona and Millie in the 800m and Shot Putt. The highlight of the championships for SGG was the performances in the final from Millie Soutar and Shona Carey. Millie won the bronze medal in the Shot Putt and Shona won a bronze medal in the 800m!!! This is the schools first ever medals at the Scottish Schools track and field and to get two on the one day was absolutely fantastic! Millie won the bronze by 7 cms, her series of throws was very similar to the girl in 5th so she did well to keep her composure and claim the medal. Shona qualified for the final with ease and in the final she ran a composed fast race to create a sizeable gap and hold off the chasing pack. Not only that she recorded a Personal Best in the process. Thanks to all the pupils for making this years championships unforgettable.

SGG are going to the World Schools’ Netball Cup!

We have been invited to take part in the World Schools Netball Cup in Loughborough in June 2025! What a fantastic opportunity for the girls ...
