Man City vs Arsenal
A group of 33 pupils and staff travelled down to Manchester on Saturday December 14th to watch Manchester City vs Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. For many of the group it was their first ever experience of going to a football match, they could not have asked for more. The seats were amazing and the pupils were able to clearly see all 9 goals which were scored (not including the 2 dubious offside decisions) with the final score Manchester City 6 - 3 Arsenal!

Schools Baton Relay
A big well done and thank you to Mrs Campbell bun sgoil for organising a fantastic number of events celebrating the schools baton relay. The baton arrived with the school on Friday 22nd November. The baton was enthusiastically welcomed by the whole school in the playground. On Monday the school had assemblies to celebrate the baton, the assemblies included parents who had lived in New Zeland (bun sgoil twinned country), who talked about what it was like to live there. Rory Macdiarmid sang the New Zeland national anthem and there were performances from Pol Monk, and a fantastic dance from highland dancers Caragh Mackinnon, Iona MacKay and Abbie MacNeil. The girls created their own dance for this event and it was so good they were asked to perform at the Glasgow schools dance competition on Thursday 28th and received a standing ovation from the judges.
Wednesday 27th saw the baton depart the school. We had to take the baton to Cadder Primary. Bun Sgoil and Ard Sgoil were both involved in this. The baton was first taken through the park by the bun sgoil cross country team. Fionn Whyte, Finlay Benton were also selected to run with the baton due to their achievements in sport. Mia and Robyn Paton were on their BMX bikes. Both Mia and Tobyn are competing at international level in BMX so deserved to be involved.
After running through the park the baton was handed over to the pupils on the bus who were taking it to Cadder. The bus had a number of pupils including Zach Ronan, Pol Monk, Rory MacDiarmid and Andrew Grossart who did a number of tunes for Cadder.
Well done to all pupils and staff involved with the Baton organisation and performances. The commonwealth games is next summer with many events taking part close to the school itself. A lot of the pupils and staff will now be aware of the games thanks to the events this week. This was helped also by a surprise appearance by Clyde the official mascot for the games. Clyde appeared at the bun sgoil assembly and got the pupils into a frenzy with his high 5s and dancing!

The girls faced tough opposition in Castlemilk. The S2s did manage to win 11-6 with Tammy getting 8 points and Yvonne getting 3. The S3/4 lost 13-4 but shouldn't be too disheartened as they played some great netball. Considering both teams only started netball before the summer they have done extremely well.
Netball is on after school on Tuesdays , there is competition for each place in all teams so its important to keep attending each training session.

Lewis Miller Selected for U17 South of Scotland Team
Lewis Miller from S6
has been selected to play for South of Scotland Under 17 Shinty team against the
North of Scotland on Sunday 29th September at Mossfield Stadium in
Oban, throw up 3pm.
This follows on from another successful year of shinty for
Lewis, as a regular second team player for Glasgow Mid Argyll, being voted as
vice-captain and captaining their under 17 side too.
He has played twice before for the South of Scotland at Under
14 level and was consistently voted for player of the year when playing for the
school team at each age level. I’m sure it won’t be long before he has a place in the first
team, who have just won promotion to the Premiership for next
season.
So who knows? We could have a school shinty player, playing
against the likes of Newtonmore, Kingussie and Fort William, to name but
three!
More to follow on how the game went for Lewis on Sunday.

Glasgow Gaelic School Cross Country Championships
Congratulations to all S1-3 pupils who took part in the Glasgow Gaelic School Cross Country Championships. The event was held last Monday in Bellahouston Park in what could be described as horrendous conditions. The races were run together due to driving wind and rain and all 57 pupils did well to compete the race.
There was a very exciting race in the Boys event who ran two laps, Fionn Whyte was closely followed by Samuel Down in the first of two laps, the gap to 3rd was 50m and it was Fergus O'Hanlon who was looking strong at he half way point. When the runners were coming into the final 200m, it was still the same order however Fionn was working very hard to hold off Samuel who was appling pressure. Fergus had ran a very well judged race and sprinted past Samuel into 2nd but ran out of time to catch Fionn who held off for the win.
Boys
1st Fionn Whyte
2nd Fergus O'Hanlon
3rd Samuel Down
In the Girls race after the first of two laps Mairi and Rosie both S2 were running together and looking comfortable well ahead of the pack. Mairi pushed hard to create a gap between her and Rosie in the 2nd lap all the way to the finish. Anna NicGriogair S1 did very well to finish in 3rd place, beating all the other girls in the race and even stopping to help Rebecca find her glasses which had flown off in the wind.
Girls
1st Mairi MacDonald
2nd Rosie Urquhart
3rd Anna NicGriogair
Thanks to all those teachers and pupils who helped out on the day to make the event a success.

Glasgow Gaels Shinty Success
The Glasgow Gaels held the First Shinty National Qualifiers on the 3rd February in the Bellahouston Sports Day. We had one team in p7 competition and two in the p5. It was a fantastic day off hints with the winners qualifying for Finals in Fort William on 2nd March. The p7 had already qualified but they still can second in their competition. The p5a team won their competition and now qualify. The p5b team played fantastic considering a lot of them it was their first time in a tournament and with players they hadn't played with. All players got certificates for taking part and the winners and runners up got medals. P5a also won a cup.
For the first time very Glasgow Gaels have a team in both competitions at Fort William. We are very proud of the players and they will go and give their best at Fort William.
