S1 & 2 Boys Rugby Success

Mr MacKay returned from the Rugby competition yesterday because his boys rugby team came 3rd in ye Glasgow Plate competition. The boys who are all new to the sport have been impressing not only Mr MacKay but other schools and coaches too. The rugby coaches and development officers have praised the boys for their hard work and improvement over the last few months and they will no doubt get better as they gain more experience in the sport. Well done boys.

Abbie MacNeil wins the European Highland Dance Championships

A big congratulations to Abbie MacNeil who won the European Highland Dancing Championships recently over in Ireland. This win is probably Abbie's greatest achievement to date along with her 2nd place at the World's last year. The European Championship win is even more impressive considering she had to beat the World Champion to do it. Abbie had to compete in 4 different dances and placed first in all 4. A huge congratulations to Abbie, everyone at the school wishes you all the best for future events.

Rugby Success for Anna Smith S2

Congratulations to Anna Smith who was part of the winning girls rugby team in the final of the Scottish Schools Rugby Cup Final.

Anna plays tight-head prop for Hillhead/Jordanhill Girls Under 15 (otherwise known as the mini Hill Jills). The competition they won was the Brewin Dolphin U15 Girls Shield on Friday against The Nicolson Institute Stornoway Isle of Lewis.

The Brewin Dolphin Girls’ Cup is open to schools, rugby clubs and also to composite teams and is played at two age levels – under-15 and under-18.

Teams move through the Girls’ Cup competition by playing qualifying tournaments in their local region, followed by a seeded knock-out contest that matches teams up with competition on an appropriate level, in either the Cup, Shield or Bowl competition.

The senior Hillhead-Jordanhill women's side are currently top of Premier 1 and have a substantial number of current and former internationalists in the side, several of whom are involved in the girls' training sessions which are held on Wednesday nights at Hughenden.
