A big congratulations to the S1 Netball Team for being the first team from the school to make a Scottish Cup Final. We are all delighted for you! To make the final the girls had 3 tough games against Holyrood (Edinburgh), St Andrews from Paisley and in the Semi Finals Dumfries Academy. The game against St Andrews in the quarter final was particularly close with just two goals in it. The girls had a great first half but St Andrews made it a real battle in the 2nd and we just managed to scrape it in the end. The team now play Monifieth in the final on Thursday 21st March. Good luck girls:

Glasgow Schools’ Cross-Country Championships

Wow, what a day we had at the Glasgow Schools’ Cross-Country Championships. In fact it was our most successful day of sport in the history of the School! A big congratulations to all our magnificent pupils for putting such a tremendous effort in. Here’s a round up of all the races...

S1 Girls
The day kicked off with a great quality S1 girls race. Emilly Haldane ran a storming race to finish 10th overall. Isla Thoms wasn't too far behind in 17th, they were backed up well by Orla MacAskill 31 and Iris O'Connell in 32nd. Seona Brown ran well to finish in 42nd, all girls inside the top 50 is a first for SGG at S1 level! These girls will medal in the team event if they keep up their hard work over the years. A fantastic start to their cross-country experience at SGG.

S1 Boys
What an absolutely brilliant performance from the boys. Finlay Robb finished in the highest position an S1 boy has placed for SGG, in 5th! He was backed up tremendously by Calum Murray 18th, Sandy Arthur 19th, Gabriel Murphy 22nd Oliver Campbell 35th and Jonathon Dow 38th. This sterling performance secured team silver medals for the boys. This is the first time our S1 boys have medalled at these Championships.

S2 Girls
The 5 S2 girls put in a really strong performance in the race. Lucie ran a great race and had a great finish, sitting in 14th with about 400m to go she came through strongly to finish 9th. Olive anhilated her finishing position from last year to finish 21st this year. As too did Maebh and Sara in 27th and 31st respectivley. Eala ran well in her first ever cross-country race to finish 61st. The girls finished 4th team!

The S3 girls medalled last year and made in two years in a row finishing with the Bronze team medals. Peggy-Nan ran another solid race to finish 6th. Kerry has been performing exceptionally well in class went out and had a stormer to finish 13th. Cerys had a great run to finish 19th as too did Abbey 24th and Sophie Pettifor 28th! SGG Cross-Country Date Confirmed

Thursday 14th February (valentines day, because we all love Cross-Country) is the date for this year's school cross-country championships. The race is for all S1-3 pupils, this is what all your training in class has been for! Any S4-6 pupils are of course welcome to sign up too. The girl's race will take place period 1 and the boy's race period 2, both races will run all year groups at the same time so you will be able to see how you get on against older or younger competitors. The race will be 2.5km long (approx) and there will be medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers in each of the year groups. We recommend that for the race you come to school wearing your PE kit. You will have time to get changed into school uniform after the race. It's important you come prepared as best you can for the conditions, that includes: PE Kit, warm clothes and/or waterproofs, old trainers or spikes to wear during the event, towel, carrier bag for your kit after the event and a spare PE kit if you have PE again that day. Good luck to all the pupils for the big day!
