SGG Cross-Country Date Confirmed

Thursday 14th February (valentines day, because we all love Cross-Country) is the date for this year's school cross-country championships. The race is for all S1-3 pupils, this is what all your training in class has been for! Any S4-6 pupils are of course welcome to sign up too. The girl's race will take place period 1 and the boy's race period 2, both races will run all year groups at the same time so you will be able to see how you get on against older or younger competitors. The race will be 2.5km long (approx) and there will be medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers in each of the year groups. We recommend that for the race you come to school wearing your PE kit. You will have time to get changed into school uniform after the race. It's important you come prepared as best you can for the conditions, that includes: PE Kit, warm clothes and/or waterproofs, old trainers or spikes to wear during the event, towel, carrier bag for your kit after the event and a spare PE kit if you have PE again that day. Senior Girls Scottish Cup Team

S1 Scottish Cup Netball Team

The S1 Netball team had a tough group stage in the Scottish Cup, losing both games to a very good Holyrood team and Balfron. As a result the team are now in the Bronze section of the Scottish Cup. They have a home game against Holyrood High School from Edinburgh. The girls have been very dedicated this year and I'm looking forward to seeing how their netball improves over the years if they keep up their excellent effort:

Scottish Schools' Indoor Athletics Championships

I can't really believe that it's almost time for the Scottish Schools' Indoors but it is, it's come around quickly. This year we have a smaller group entered, there are only two age groups, under 16 and over 16 so some people are too young for the championships so they'll be entered next year.

Glasgow Schools' Floor and Vault Championships

For the first year, SGG are entering a Gymnastics team into the Glasgow Schools' Floor and Vault Championships. The 4 girl team will all do both floor and vault aspects of the competition. Good luck to the team who take part on Tuesday:

S3 Netball team vs North Berwick

The S3 Netball team are travelling to North Berwick High School in the 4th round of the Scottish Gold Cup. The team has taken a couple of hits today so we will be travelling understrength but that will not deter the team who are excited to be in the top end of the competition, only the second team from the school to get to the champions league of the Scottish Cup.  Good luck to the team:

S3/4 Glasgow Schools Netball Tournament Champions

Congratulations to the S3/4 Netball Team for winning the Glasgow Schools Premier Division Netball Tournament. The girls put a fantastic display of netball together in the 4 group games. Each game was 20 minutes long and with only one sub the girls new it was going to be a tough day physically and mentally. Considering this is a brand new S3/4 team the girls played exceptionally well. Due to the quality of players in the team there was some positional changes with players playing new positions never experienced before. This was a challenge the team relished and worked out exceptionally well in all 4 games. This is the first time the school has won the S3/4 Netball tournament and it was the best quality of teams for some years with ourselves, Holyrood S3 team who were Scottish Gold cup semi finalists last year and Hyndland S3/4 team who have a number or club and district level players in their starting 7, this made for some very competitive games. SGG came out on top with a narrow win in the last game to take home the medals. Well done girls, what a fantastic achievement!

Scottish Cup Draw for Netball Teams

Congratulations to the S3 Netball Team for making in into the top competition of the Scottish Cup. The girls have been placed into the gold section of the cup with the best teams in the country. To get to this level is a fantastic achievement for the girls and the school. Our second ever senior team have played at a higher level than last year and this has resulted in them qualifying for the Silver Cup, last year they were in the Bronze. Our S1s are all new to netball and they start their journey in the sport. They had two tough apponents in the group with Holyrood and Balfron and lost both games so they have qualified for the Bronze cup. They are enthusiastic bunch and have progressed their performances every game so no doubt they will be entered into a silver or gold cup in years to come. Good luck to all our teams:

PE XMAS PARTY

We really can’t believe it’s Christmas again but it is! The big day this year is Friday 7th December, the PE Christmas Party! It’s £5 per person to attend. There will be a mixture of activities on such as Netball, Table Tennis, Benchball, Fifa, a Christmas movie etc etc. There will be pizzas, sweets, crisps and juice for everyone who attends. The party will last from 3.05-6.00pm. If you’re interested just sign up at the PE Dept with your money.
