Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics Team

We are sending a team to compete at the Scottish Schools indoor athletics championships which take place on February 1st and 2nd in Glasgow. The event has only two age groups for boys and girls competitions, under 16 and over 16. Each individual event has an entry standard which athletes must achieve to be able to compete which makes it a quality competition. We are sending a small team to the championship but a significantly larger team than last year which is a testament to the hard work and improvements our pupils have shown in athletics over the last year. In preparation for the competition an extra training session will take place on Monday nights, please speak to Mr MacCorquodale for more details. Good luck to our athletes in each of their events:

S2
Annabel Long Jump and 300m
Shona Carey 800m

Christmas Cup Winners!!

Congratulations to our S3 Boys who won the Glasgow Schools Toryglen Christmas Cup. The boys won all their games throughout the day including narrowly beating the S2 boys 1-0 who got to the semi final and missed out on the final on penalties. In the final the boys had to work hard as a team after going down against Shawlands School of football. The boys remained composed and got back to 2-2 then 3-2 up all in the last stages of the game. Well done to Devyn, Calum, Lewis, Gilles and Calum MacA.

Medals at the Glasgow Schools Swimming Finals

Congratulations to Hannah Mason and Patrick Connor who both managed to qualify for the finals in both their events at the Glasgow Schools Swimming Finals. Hannah finished with the bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke Final. She swam strongly throughout, managing to pull away from the 4th place finisher over the last 50m. Patrick picked up a Silver medal in the 100m Backstroke final he performed very close to his personal best. He was pleased to perform so well in the final and pick up a medal as well as record a good time. Amy Craig finished in 4th place in the final of the 100m butterfly open category, she's determined to come back next year to even better. Congratulations to all our finalists including Abigail Cavanagh and Kara MacDonald who had to miss the finals due to a clash with the outward bound trip. At the finals night it was great to see Abigail's trophy from last year and Sgoil Ghaidhlig Ghlaschu on a swimming trophy for the first time ever.

Scottish Schools' Road Race

Congratulations to the SGG team who went to the Scottish Schools Road Race in Falkirk and competed very well. The race attracted the best runners from around the country so this was a good opportunity for our athletes to see where they stand with the best of the best.

In the S1/2 Girls race Shona Carey ran well to finish in 62nd position. Peggy-Nan who was making her first appearance for the school athletics team performed well throughout the race to finish in 91st position. Top 100 was the target for the girls so they did well to finish strongly with over 180 taking part.

In the S3/4 boys race they packed very well: Andrew Carey finished in 68th position, Calum Brown 78th, Ruairidh Harris 82nd and Benjamin Campbell 87th. Credit must go to Ruairidh Harris who was making his first appearance for the school athletics team. Ruairidh has worked hard over the last 3 and a bit years to develop his fitness and is now a very strong runner. We look forward to seeing how much further he develops.

In the S5/6 girls race, Amy Craig who had just completed her first 10km race at the Great Scottish Run ran well to finish in 41st position. Amy still has another year at this age group.

In the S5/6 boys race, Daniel Moran was against the most competitive field of the day. Daniel who is in S4 but with his date of birth he just missed out on being able to run the S3/4 age category. Daniel ran a brilliant race to finish in 27th position. This was the performance of the day from the school. Daniel will have two more years at the age group and will no doubt be determined to get into the top 20.

Well done to all competitors!
