Yesterday the Glasgow Swimming Prelims were held at Whitehill Pool. The Glasgow Gaelic School had eight pupils competing in various events:
Lewis Dickson 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke
Amy Craig 50m Breaststroke
Iain Campbell 50m Freestyle
Fraser Watt 50m Freestyle
Shannon Beattie Lifesaving and 100m Breaststroke
Shannon McShane Lifesaving and 100m Freestyle
Rachael Lyons 100m Freestyle
Anna Matheson 100m Freestyle
All pupils did very well in their event competitions. The quality of swimming was very high, competing against very experienced swimmers with the majority involved in swimming clubs.
Although it was a Prelim for the Finals night in a few weeks some Finals were held yesterday. Shannon Beattie and Shannon McShane got a bronze medal in the Lifesaving event. Also Lewis Dickson performed very well to place in the top 6 in the backstroke and butterfly and qualify for the finals at the end of October.
Well done to all who took part.

Shinty News from Spors Ghlaschu...
Two Saturdays SGG pupils competed in the Milngavie and Bearsden Shinty Tournament which included teams
from all over the south of Scotland.
The primary/secondary Development team lifted the cup and won all games except one in which they drew. It was a fantastic display of shinty and the players all played very well taking home a medal each for their efforts.
The P5 team won their section too and lifted the plate, they also won most of their matches, with only one draw. Again all the players played brillantly and showed superior skill and stamina against the southern teams.
The P7 team did extremely well against the other teams and won most of their matches and got all the way to the semi finals only to be pipped to the finals by one goal.
Well done to all pupils involved.
If you are interested in playing Shinty please see details below on the training times and location. It would be great to have more pupils involved.

Congratulations to Finlay Beaton
Finlay Beaton S2 competed on Saturday 8/9 at the 2012 Taekwondo British Championships in
Manchester. For a third year in a row he took a bronze medal at the highest level of
taekwondo in the UK, showing great consistency as he was very unlucky in the semi final to lose
on judges decision.
His target now is to get selected to represent Team GB at next years Cadet

Spòrs Glasgow Meeting (AGM)
Saturday 15th September, 10am – 12pm
Spòrs Ghlaschu was set up last year by parents at the Glasgow Gaelic School to promote Sport through Gaelic and Gaelic through Sport in Glasgow .
We have sponsored a range of sports-related coaching courses, TOPS, first aid, child protection, Early Touches (football), Bikeability (teaching off and on-road cycling skills) and a variety of shinty courses. Volunteer coaches from the club provide football training, Bikeability-based cycling tuition and shinty coaching is provided by the Glasgow Gaelic School ’s shinty club, which is an affiliate member.
We plan to provide more sports coaching and training opportunities, especially to younger coaches in the coming year. Development of coaching skills in Gaelic is another priority.
None of this can happen without enthusiastic volunteer coaches and organizers. If you want to help please come along to this meeting.
