Netball Competition Entries

Some pupils have been asking about why we don’t have an S3/4 team in the Glasgow Schools League this year so I’ll try and explain the reasoning. Having a small number of pupils to select from as a school there’s had to be strategy put in behind what competitions to enter in the past two years in the hope of building experience and the number of teams for future years in both the Glasgow and Scottish competitions. The 6 x S3s in this Scottish Cup team (previous post) for example were entered into the Scottish Cup last year and solely focussed on the competition having not also entered the Glasgow League in 2016/17. This like last year allowed us to use players from the lower year group in the team as they are not in the Scottish Cup as a year group themselves, only the S2 Glasgow League. This year we have no S3/4 team entered in the Glasgow Schools League despite having won the competition last year. We have the S1s and S2s in the Glasgow League, S2/3s in the Scottish Cup and the S4-6(seniors) in the Scottish Cup too. This has all been done in the hope that this current S2/3 Scottish Cup team will have good practice before coming together again as a team and re-entering the Glasgow Schools League next year at the S3/4 age group team after summer 2018. As well as this we will have a separate S3 team and Senior Team in the Scottish Cup competition too. This will mean that the current senior team will be strengthened next year by this year’s Scottish Cup S3s who move up a Senior Scottish Cup age group to S4-6s after the summer. It also means that the S2s in this Scottish Cup team have experience of playing in the Scottish Competition before entering as an S3 team on their own next year. So basically next year we will have more teams entered in the Glasgow Schools competition with an S1, S2 and S3/4 team in the competition. We will also have an S3 and Senior Team entered into the Scottish Cup. So that’s the logic behind it all, building for tgthe future!
