Glasgow Schools Athletics Finals

You On Wednesday 10th June the Glasgow Athletics Finals were held at Scotstoun Stadium. The Gaelic School had a record breaking 17 qualifiers from the heats in addition to this 3 of our senior pupils were taking part too with senior heats and finals taking place on the same day.

Not only did we have a record number for finalists this year we also had a record number of medal winners! The first medal of the day was Daniel Moran in the S2 boys 1500m. Daniel ran a tactically well judged race and finished in an impressive 4 mins 50 seconds to secure the bronze medal. Our second medalist of the day was Eilidh McDougall in the S1 girls 100m. Eilidh won GOLD in a lighting quick time of 13.3! This is SGG's first ever gold medal in athletics and also a school record for girls!

The medals didn't stop there and next on the podium was Erin Moran in the S2 Girls 200m. Going into the race Erin new it would be a close race and she was right. Erin was powerful out the blocks and round the bend into the final 100. She maintained good form and had an all important dip for the line to secure the bronze medal in 28.4 seconds and a new Personal Best!

Our final medalist of the day was someone who is accustomed to being on the podium, Jacob Connelly. Jacob was a finalist in the 400m in S1, a bronze medalist in the 400m in S2 and now a Bronze medalist in the 200m in S3.

Jacob ran 24.9 in the final to secure bronze against some quality opposition. Mr MacCorquodale is happy to hear that he is now talking about joining an athletics club.

The school had some other very impressive performances. Lewis Conley 4th in the Boys 400m final. Calum Stewar 5th in the Shot Putt and 4th in the Boys 800m final. The S1 Boys were 6th in the final of the Relay in a much improved performance from the heat. Katrin Swan finished 6th in the Discus, a much improved performance from last year.

A big well done to all of the athletics team. This year there was a huge improvement in the performances and effort from all. Keep up the good work!

Glasgow Schools Adventure Race

Glasgow Gaelic School are Glasgow Schools Adventure Race Champions!!! This was the first year we had entered the competition and we had two teams involved along with 23 other schools. The event is very well organised with all schools competing in 5 different events, all against the clock! The events were: Orienteering, mountain biking, obstical course, team building and kayaking. We had a boys team and a girls team entered:

Boys
Lewis Dickson
Lewis Grimmer
Zach Ronan
Fraser Watt
Jacob Connelly and
Conall Whyte

Girls
Mairi MacDonald
Frances Driscoll
Charlotte Moock
Mia Paton
Sarah Campbell
Amy Craig

With so many events and everything against the clock the day was a definite test for all schools involved.

It was brilliant to hear the news that the boys team had won! The girls team finished in a very respectable 15th place, beating the only other all girls team, a number of boys teams and mixed teams too. With most of the SGG pupils finishing S3 and the rest S4 the school will have another couple of years to take part in this event with possibly the same teams.
