S4 Young Leaders

This year we are running not only a sports leadership group for our S5/6 but we are also running a young leaders award for the S4 year group. Over the last month they have been busy delivering sports sessions to Bun Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu and this has proved to be a huge success. The leaders have had to plan, deliver and evaluated their sessions. Primary 4,5 and 6s were absolute superb and brought lots of energy and effort to the sessions. Thank you to the primary’s and teachers for supporting our delivery of the Young Leaders Award.

Glasgow Sports Awards

What a great night we had at the Glasgow Sports Awards last week. As we were awarded the sportscotland gold sports award we were invited along to the Glasgow Sports Awards Night at the Emirates arena to celebrate this achievement. What made it even better was the fact Bun Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu were also in attendance after receiving their gold sport award too! It was an incredible night and it really hit home the power and reach that sport has in everyone’s life. There are so many fantastic organisations and clubs doing incredible things in the city that it was hard not to be take aback at how great Glasgow really is. Thank you to our fantastic ambassadors and pupils who represented us so well on the night and to Team PE and our very own Active Schools Coordinator Grant for everything that you do. A special thanks to Mrs Campbell Thow for supporting us and coming along to the Sports Awards as it made us all feel really appreciated. Well done to our fantastic school for yet another Sportscotland Gold Sports Award.

All 4 Netball Teams Progress to Scottish Cup

For the first time ever in SGG’s short history in the competition Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu have progressed as group winners into the Scottish Cup Competition. Out of all the schools in this years various age group only 2 other schools have managed to win all their local group stage and progress as winners in each age group! How amazing is that! 10 years after starting netball in the school we have come on a long way in terms of the level the players are playing the sport, to now have won each group stage and every age group it’s an absolutely outstanding achievement from the players and the school.

Now onto business…

S1s vs Glasgow Academy at Home
S2s vs Dunblane High School Away
S3s vs Jordanhill at Home
Seniors vs Hillpark at Home

All 4 games will take place over the next 2 weeks. Good luck to every single team!

Glasgow Schools Champions!

Meet our new Glasgow Schools’ Netball Team Champions! The S1’s went into the final having gained some valuable experience from the Scottish Cup where they progressed all the way to the semi finals. The team were absolutely superb and won the final by over 10 goals which is incredible. All players player in the final so all 9 girls got experience of playing with nerves against great opponents. The girls become the sixth team to win a Glasgow Schools title for SGG which is amazing considering the number of pupils we have to select from as well as the quality, size and great coaches of the schools we come against.

Our S2s played a 3–way playoff on the one night for the S2 league title. The girls were up against Holyrood and All Saints the girls performed exceptionally well but struggled in only one quarter. A combination of fantastic shooting from the All Saints GS and losing Niamh and Eilidh meant we had to change personnel about and it become too much of a challenge to tackle this year. All Saints were absolutely worthy winners and our players were excellent the last two years and have only lost two games in that time. Once in the final of the Glasgow and by one goal in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup. Losing games is good as it shows us what we need to work on, you won’t win every game but the players will hopefully come back hungrier to improve and keep learning about the game in S3 and for many years to come.

Scottish Schools XC

We have a small but mighty group of runners heading to the Scottish Schools XC at Hopetoun House Estste in Edinburgh tomorrow. We have a tea...
