S2 and S3/4 Glasgow Schools’ Netball Champions
I’m delighted to tell you that our S2 Team have won the Glasgow Schools Netball League, again! That makes it two in a row for our S2s. Our S2s won the playoff league final comfortably putting in their best display of netball all year to secure the Schools’ first ever title defence (winning the league in S1). Also, our S3/4 Team have won the Glasgow Schools’ Netball League, none other than the big prize, the Premier League Championship!!! Wow! This was our best ever S3/4 team and I’m delighted that they came away with the title up against some quality competition in the biggest and most competitive league in the S3/4 age group. Don’t forget that this makes the S3/4 team the first team from the school to do the Glasgow Schools’ tournament and league double this year! What a year it’s been!!! To top it all off our Senior Team got to a higher level of competition this year, the Silver Scottish Cup narrowly missing out on the quarter finals of the competition. And not forgetting our S1s who got to the playoff semi finals and the Scottish Cup Bronze Final and the S3 team who qualified for the Scottish Cup Gold section! Five teams this year and all 5 have done absolutely amazing! Congratulations and thank you to all 5 teams for a phenomenal year! It really has been brilliant, a season to remember! Two league trophies, a tournament Win, a tournament Silver, a Scottish Cup Final and a highest placed finish for the Senior Netball Team. I’m looking forward to next season already!

Athletics Opportunities before Glasgow Schools' Athletics Championships
The Glasgow Schools' Athletics Championships is fast approaching. In preparation for this, I would like to invite pupils to take part in two events.
A first opportunity is an open-graded event in Livingston on Wednesday 22nd May. This involves a number of events for each age group where you can come and record times or distances against people of similar standards + ages. Here you can see the website for more information and the flyer which involves details about the age group cutoffs. Please note this age groups as some of the S1s will actually be in the u15 age group and not u13s.

https://www.livingstonac.com/fs/1/results/2019/2019_Livingston_Open_Meeting_Series_Flyer.pdf
The second event takes place at Crownpoint track just beside Glasgow Green. It offers fewer events than the Livingston competition but a great opportunity to record a PB none the less. Athletes can do a 100m, Shot Putt and/or a long jump.

For both events pupils should enter via online links themselves.
Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Paris International Netball Festival
For the third time in recent years, SGG sent a squad of Netballers to the International Netball tournament in Paris. This trip proves to be very popular with any pupils as it mixes netball with Disneyland. What's not to like! This year it was an S2/3 combined team who went down to compete in the u14 competition. This was the strongest team we have sent to the competition due to some birthdays falling after the cut-off. Mr MacCorquodale and Miss Burgess accompanied the girls down to Paris and after the week was done both were full of praise for the girls, their effort, behaviour and their attitudes were absolutely outstanding all week. We couldn't praise them enough. On top of that the girls not only qualified for the Gold section cup but also finished in 3rd place overall. The only game they lost on the whole trip was to the eventual winners, our friends from Australia! The netball the girls played was exceptional and they really raised their game at the tournament. As well as picking up a trophy for third the girls also received the spirit of the games umpire award which is a real testament for how sporting, well behaved, supportive and respectful our team were. This award is actually SGG's second at the games with our last trip also receiving the same trophy, the netballers are really putting SGG's name out there in such a positive way! Well done girls on being so fantastic all week, thank you!

Sirens Netball Festival
Netball Playoffs Confirmed
Our S1 and S2 Netball Teams have played exceptionally well this year and have progressed through to the Netball playoffs. The playoffs include the top two teams from each of the two leagues in Glasgow. The draw has been made and I can confirm that the S1s will face St Andrews Secondary at home and the S2s will face Hillhead. Both games will be tough as they both performed very well in their group games. The S2 game will be taking place tomorrow night, no rest for the team as they are just back from the International tournament in Paris. The team will however be understrength as starting player Rhuibn is unavailable for this game so we will need everyone to come ready to play their best. Good luck to both teams in their quest to reach the finals.
