SGG Teams for the Scottish Schools' Cross-Country Championships

We are sending our biggest ever team of runners to the Scottish Schools' Cross-Country Championships. This is the biggest event on the cross-country calendar with schools from around the country taking part in the event. The entries will be 100+ for more or less each age group. This is also the first year that we have teams taking part in each age category which is a testament to the progress the school has made in athletics and cross-country over the years. We wish everyone all the best for Thursday:

Netball Scotland - Glasgow League Playoff Final

Congratulations to the Senior Netball team who won the Netball Scotland Glasgow League Playoff Final last Wednesday. The girls although hit with some absences had to dig deep to progress to the Regional Championships. The girls started the game quite slowly which resulted in the game being very close in the first quarter. The 2nd quarter was much stronger from the team but Holyrood came out swinging in the 3rd to bring the game back to 3 points. This made for an exciting last quarter from both teams. SGG managed to pull away towards the end of the game with some nice interceptions from the defence and some very impressive play from Kerry, Millie and Olive who all combined well. Tired afterwards but the girls were delighted to win the game and they now go on to play the Dumfries and Galloway champions - Douglas Ewart and the Lanarkshire Champions who will either be Strathaven or St Andrew's. Both games will no doubt be very tough, we will be starting as under dogs in these games but these are the types of games that the girls deserve to be playing in and the games that they will benefit the most from. This is essentially the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup so a massive achievement from our wee school to get to this stage of the competition. Good luck to the team in the Regionals.

Scottish Schools' Indoor Athletics Championships

Well done to all the athletes that took part in the Scottish Schools' Athletics Championships. Everyone performed very well, especially considering it was the first time competing indoors for two years. Some of our athletes were competing indoors for the first time ever. The highlights of the two day event were Maisie getting a personal best and a bronze medal in the u16 pole vault. She was agonisingly close to 2.30 but the pole knocked the bar down at the last second. Still what a fantastic achievement. Maisie is our first ever medalist at the Indoor competition. A big well done!

Finlay ran a school and personal best in the 1500m. He ran 4.20 which smashed the old school record by 11 seconds. It was an outstanding performance. Isla got to the final in the Shot Put which was a very tough ask with the number of entries in the field. She finished 6th overall after the final round of throws. Special mention to Lois who has never taken part in the indoors before, was unable to train for it but ran the 5th fastest time from an SGG girl in the 60m. From a standing start! Lots more to come from her.

Scottish Schools Netball

Our S2/3 Netball team won 2/3 of their Scottish Schools Netball Fixtures and showed great progression this year. They were unfortunate to lost their first game, missing 4 players but these things happen to teams occasionally and the S2 players really stepped up for that game.

Our Senior Netball Team won all their games and are through to the next round. Good luck into the next round girls.

SGG Cross-Country Championships 2022

It’s almost here, the 2022 Cross-Country Championships.

This years event will be split into 3 races:

Period 1 - S3s and S4s
Period 2 - S2s
Period 3 - S1s

For this event you should come dressed ready to take part and bring your school uniform. As it’s winter time you will need warm clothes, black socks are a good idea, old trainers, football boots or spikes to wear during the event and a carrier bag for all your kit for afterwards. We are really looking forward to seeing how you all do on race day after all your excellent work during this block!

Keep working hard!

Daibhidh
