Scottish Schools’ Gymnastics Champions!!!

A phenomenal performance from our Gymnasts at the Scottish Schools’ Gymnastics Championships in Perth. After winning the level 3 competition at the Glasgow Schools’ Champs for the first time at only the second attempt, the girls went up against the best of the best from every local authority in Scotland and have came home to Glasgow with the Championship Trophy! Scottish Schools' Champions!!! The girls started the competition on the vault. You get two attempts each where the girls performed very well. It was however in the floor where the girls dominated the competition. With well thought out routines and excellent presentations the girls all finished inside the top 8 in the competition in the Floor. In fact once the floor and vault scores had been totalled up all four of the girls finished in the top 15 overall, that's absolutely amazing: Mirren Ward 6th, Isla Thoms 7th, Emilly Haldane 10th and Muireann Dalton 15th. That's outstanding from our pupils, Glasgow and Scottish Champions in the same year! A massive congratulations to you!

Glasgow Sports Awards

Here's some photos of SGG at the Glasgow Sports Person of the Year awards at the City Chambers. We received a trophy in recognition of the school receiving the Sportscotland Gold Award.

Glasgow Schools' Floor and Vault Gymnastics Championships

For the first time in the school's history we have won a Glasgow Schools' Gymnastics title! Our level 3 A team won the Level 3 competition which makes them the first team to do so in only our second year in the competition. The standard of this years event across all 3 levels was exceptionally high. SGG had four teams entered this year with one at level 1, one at level 2 and two at level 3. Our level one team of: Skye, Jenna, Lucie and Emma performed very well in both the floor and vault to secure bronze medals! Our level 2 team: Orla, Grace, Karis and Eilidh finished in 9th position and our level 3 B team finished in 5th. There were some great individual results too. Lucie in level 1 was 10th individual overall. In the level 3 individual event we had some great results: Emilly was 9th, Muireann 8th, Mirren 4th and Beth 3rd! Considering all these gymnasts only had 4 training sessions the results were very impressive. All the teams put in their best effort and have learnt a lot for next years' event. Congratulations to all our competitors.

Scottish Gold Cup Quarter Finals

For the first time in the schools’ history we have two netball teams in the Scottish Gold Cup. Both teams have done exceptionally well to not only get into the Gold cup but to progress to the quarter finals (final 8) of the competition. First up are the seniors who are playing Holy Cross high school on Thursday. Our seniors are made up of 5 x S4s and 4 x S5s so the future is bright for this new team regardless of the result as all players will be back for more Scottish Cup action next year. Our S2/3s are away to Aberdeen Grammar on Friday, we have a reduced squad available for the match with the ski trip but the players available will be looking forward to a tough game all the same. This team is gaining good experience together as they will be entered as a squad next year for the Glasgow Schools’ S3/4 league campaign. Good luck to both teams.

This year we have a team at level 1, level 2 and two at Level 3! Good luck to all our teams!
