Scottish Schools Road Race

This year’s Scottish Schools Road Race took place round the cycle path round the Falkirk Stadium. The event attracted the who’s who of distance running, the fields were packed with top class runners. SGG sent over a large group of 16 runners for the event. There were some fantastic displays of running from the group across a number of the races. Performance of the day went to Peggy-Nan Rodger in the S2 Girls Race. She got out quickly and positioned herself well in the first few minutes of the race. Then when things settled down she went to work and had a very strong finish to come in the top 30!! Peggy-Nan finished in 28th place, up to 70 places higher up than last year. Well done! Shona Carey ran strongly in the S3/4 Girls race to finish in 40th position, Shona will have another year at this age group and its good to see her back at this event again this year with a much higher fitness level than previous years. Robaidh Whyte ran an absolute stormer in the S3/4 age group, again, like Shona he has another year at this. This could be Robaidh’s best performance to date, which is quite a statement considering the number of good performances he has put in over the last two and a bit years in athletics. It cements his place at the National level after achieving a top 40 in the Scottish Schools Cross-Country in March. Amy Craig finished 39th in the senior girls race. This is the third year Amy has competed at these championships and this is her best performance so far, she’s running much more strongly than she was this time last year. Daniel Moran finished 42nd in the senior Boys race, he described the race as “the fastest race I have ever done”. Daniel’s performance of top 50 is even more impressive when you consider that he was out for 6 weeks with a bronken collar bone and had only recently returned to running. The large number attending the Scottish Schools Championships is a credit to the pupils hard work. Although only two of our runners who competed were club athletes the whole group competed against established club runners from across the country and beat many of them! Well done to all the team.

Glasgow Schools Swimming

Congratulations to Saorla Dickson, Isla MacDonald and Patrick Connor who all made it to finals at the Glasgow Schools Swimming Championships. A fantastic achievement from the three swimmers. To get through the heats is very difficult and they are now all in the top 6 in their events in Glasgow! Finals night is on October 30th, good luck to Saorla, Isla and Patrick. Also, all the best to Amy Craig who is a senior and will swim her events on finals night as senior pupils did not take part at the heats last week.

Scottish Cup Football

Congratulations to the u16 football team who won the Schools first ever Scottish Cup football game. Although only the second year the school has entered the competition it's still a huge achievement for the school. The boys beat Campbletown in a close game 2-0 at Firhill. Scorers were Josh Hart and Kyle Gilles. The team will now play either Trinity High School from Rutherglen or All Saints Secondary in the next round.

SGG are going to the World Schools’ Netball Cup!
