School Cross Country Championships

Well done to the 80 pupils who took part in the school cross country Championhips on February 7th in Bellahouston Park. The weather was very good this year making the conditions easier for the pupils.

The S1 race kicked off the proceedings and it proved to be the fastest race of the day. Daniel Moran and Calum Brown took the race on from the start, stretching out the field. Daniel went on to win the race despite running most of the race with one shoe! Calum came 2nd and Calum Douglas had a great run in 3rd place.

The S1 Girls ran in the same race as the boys and did extremely well. Lousia Grieve came home in 1st place and an impressive 7th place overall. Sarah Mackay ran well reaping the benefits of coming to Athletics after school on a Wednesday. Anna Murray finished a well paced run in 3rd place.

The S2 race was very competitive. Conall  Whyte the pre race favourite ran from the front and his lead extended as the race went on. Jacob Connelly and Ludovic Howison had a battle for 2nd place with Jacob overtaking Ludovic near the end of the race to secure the silver medal. The S2 Girls race came down to the wire with the top 3 places being separated by a few metres at the end. Jasmin McPhee, Rowan Moore and Karen MacDonald had all ran hard throughout but it was Jasmin who just did enough to win with Rowan and Karen hunting her down right to the finish, Rowan edging out Karen for 3rd.

The S3 race was the final race of the day. With the course now muddier due thanks to the previous races. Samuel Dow last years winner, set off with the intent to make it two in a row. He was closely monitored by Fraser Watt. Fraser chose to make his move with 300m to go and managed to win by a narrow margin in a well judged effort. Chris O'Connor wasn't too far away in 3rd. One of the performances of the day was Charlotte Moock who won the S3 girls race by some distance from Frances Driscoll and Mairi MacDonald.

Well done to all runners! Everyone ran to the best of their ability and the running sessions done in core PE worked a great.  Looking forward to next years race already.
