Glasgow Gaelic Primary Pupils at the Great Scottish Run

Good luck to all the P5 Glasgow Gaelic Primary Pupils who are competing at the Great Scottish Junior Run today. We're looking forward to hearing how they got on!

Abbie MacNeil 2nd at the World Highland Dancing Championships

Abbie MacNeil S4 competed at the World Highland Dancing Championships at the Cowall Highland Games last weekend. Abbie performed exceptionally well finishing 2nd overall in the Juvenile Section. Abbie finished in the top 3 in the Highland Fling, Sword Dance and the Reel competitions which allowed her to secure a fantastic 2nd place. Well done Abbie!

Paralympics 2012

The Paralympics 2012 gets underway with the opening ceremony tonight. The sporting action then starts tomorrow with Swimming, Track Cycling and Basketball just a few of the sports taking place on day one of the competition. Good luck to all British athletes taking part.

 London 2012

It was 3 o'clock in the morning and time to wake up for London, living in Airdrie isn't pleasant at most times but when we have to get up this early in order to get to Drumchapel for 5:15 seeing as we leave at 5:30, it isn't pleasant at all.

Myself, Lyndsey and my mum had been driving for 1 hour and 45 minutes already after a series of unhelpful directions causing us to circle the most of Glasgow before finally getting to Drumchapel.

Although we were last on the bus we still got the best seats up the back with the most legroom.Result. Seeing as we were going to be on the bus for 10 hours we made ourselves at home, on the way there we mostly just ate, slept and watched films, all in a days work for the typical Glaswegian teenager.

We arrived in London and straight away were split in to our groups and headed for Wembley stadium to watch Uruguay Vs. Senegal and Team GB Vs. United Arab Emirates, brilliant start to the trip with Senegal winning 2-0 and Team GB winning 3-1.

Everyone left the venue and managed to push trough the crowds to get to our meeting point. After we all met we got the underground and our guide Mae met us to take us to our bus to Eton college.

After a "comfy" nights sleep in Eton we woke early to get ready for breakfast and get the bus to Horse Guards Parade with a quick stop to Buckingham palace and Hyde park. After leaving Horse Guards Parade we got on the bus and repeated our 10 hour journey back home, we all definitely deserved a long lie the next day.

But overall we both agree that the trip was brilliant and a once in a lifetime chance experience!

The Olympics 

My trip to the London 2012 Olympics was a memory I will never forget. I could not let my chance to see some of the top athletes in the world slip past me and I am glad to have had the opportunity to see some of them play there sport. It started with a five o’clock bus ride on a Sunday morning Drumchapel high school. Everyone was tired but exited at the same time as this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. As we left everyone fell asleep until the stop point, we had 45 minutes to go and get some food and after that it was straight to London. 

We arrived at a train station and got the train to Wembley Park. It was one of the busiest places I have ever been to but there was an amazing atmosphere about it. We ended up getting some food there as well and then we entered Wembley. Our seats were down on one of the corner flags so we were close to the action. Our first football game was Senegal vs. Uruguay and in that game were some of the world’s best footballers. Uruguay had some good chances but in the end Senegal outplayed them by winning two goals to nil and then there was team GB vs. UAE (United Arab Emirates). That was an amazing game of football with team GB winning three goals to nil and after that it was getting out of Wembley. It was unbelievably busy but we all made it to the meeting point and then we all got safely onto the train back to our train station that we started at earlier on in the day. 

After that it was a trip on to the bus and to our accommodation which was Eaton College in Windsor. We arrived there at about half past twelve at night which was a long day for all of us. When we got to our rooms everyone just fell asleep. The next morning we were up at five o’clock and straight to breakfast in the college. We all had bacon, sausage, egg and beans which was nice. Then we were back on the bus to the train station again so we could head to the beach volleyball. 

We arrived in the middle of London and did some sightseeing before the volleyball started, we seen Buckingham palace and the royal mile, then we headed to the venue. When we got in, again, there was a brilliant atmosphere, everybody was having a good time and having a laugh. The beach volleyball lasted about three and a half hours and after that we did some more sightseeing. We saw Big Ben and the London Eye before heading on the underground one last time to get the train back to the coach. Before we left for Glasgow we went to a McDonald’s which was good and after that we were homeward bound. We arrived back in Glasgow at eleven o’clock that night and after all that I was shattered but I am so happy that I got to see the London 2012 games and I will never forget them.
